---Lionel Hollins has emerged as the most likely candidate to replace Jason Kidd as the next coach for the Brooklyn Nets.
During a Tuesday news conference, Nets general manager Billy King said he had dinner with Hollins on Monday night and was expected to meet with Hollins again on Tuesday. King avoided slinging any mud and thanked Kidd for his one year of service as coach. He also praised Hollins during a news conference.
Kidd went over King's head in a failed attempt to seize control of the Nets' basketball operations during the regular season. On Monday, Brooklyn traded its coach to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Hollins guided the Memphis Grizzlies to the Western Conference Finals in 2013. He was a candidate to coach the Nets after Kidd's first year at the helm got off to a bad start.
---The Detroit Pistons and free agent small forward Jodie Meeks agreed Tuesday on a three-year, $19.5 million deal.
The Pistons also signed small forward Cartier Martin to a one-year deal.
Meeks averaged 15.7 points per game last year for the Lakers. He started 70 games and set career highs in 3-pointers made (162).
---The Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers were busy contacting free agent forward Luol Deng shortly after the beginning of free agency at midnight on Tuesday.
And if the Hawks, Mavs or Clippers are serious about signing Deng, he made it clear that he is not interested in taking a pay cut to join those teams,. or the Miami Heat.
The Hawks have plenty of cap room to sign Deng, but the Mavericks and Clippers can sign Deng only if he agrees to a pay cut. According to ESPN, Deng will not offer a discount to join a contender.
---Minnesota Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders added son Ryan to his staff as an assistant coach for next season.
Ryan Saunders comes to Minnesota after five years with the Washington Wizards working as an advance scout and in analytics.
Timberwolves general manager Milt Newton worked with the younger Saunders in Washington and expects him to contribute to the franchise's player development.
Flip Saunders' coaching staff now includes Sam Mitchell, Sidney Lowe and David Adelman, who stayed on from former coach Rick Adelman's staff.
---Forward Ed Davis became an unrestricted free agent Tuesday when the Memphis Grizzlies decided against making him a qualifying offer.
The 6-foot-10 Davis joined the Grizzlies after a trade with the Toronto Raptors in January 2013. In 99 career games with Memphis, he averaged 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds.
A first-round draft pick in 2010, Davis has career averages of 6.9 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 54.2 percent from the field in 275 games, including 58 starts, with Toronto and Memphis.
