HELENA, Mont. -

Senator John Walsh has started to disperse his campaign funds, after pulling out of the race for Montana's open U.S. Senate seat earlier this month.

Former campaign manager Aaron Murphy said Walsh has already given a significant amount of his campaign money to Montana candidates.

The campaign gave the maximum of $2,000 to replacement Democratic candidate Amanda Curtis and Democratic Representative candidate John Lewis.

Murphy said Walsh also donated $125,000 to the Montana Democratic Party, $25,000 to the Montana Democratic Legislative Committee and the maximum of $170 to each of the 147 democrats running for a spot in the Montana legislature.

The total so far is $179,000, and there may be more to come. Murphy said the campaign has to clear the books on expenses already incurred.

Walsh can also return any money to donors.
