STEVENSVILLE, Mont. -

The following is a press release from Ravalli County:

The Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a missing 56-year-old Stevensville man.

Sheriff Chris Hoffman said that George Alex Baumann reportedly left home at around 10:30 AM on August 26th, telling a friend that he was going to cut fire wood in the Ambrose Creek area, East of Stevensville. The friend reported Baumann missing when he had not returned home on Wednesday the 27th.

Baumann’s pickup was located and Ravalli County Search and Rescue responded to the area. Ground and air assets including a dog team from Jefferson County, and a local helicopter had been unable to locate Baumann by late Wednesday night, and efforts in the area were temporarily suspended until Thursday.

Sheriff Hoffman said that his office was spending Thursday morning and early afternoon following up on information received which could widen the search area.

George Baumann is described as a Caucasian male, 6 feet 4 inches tall and 195 pounds. He has blond hair and blue eyes. He is believed to have been wearing blue jeans, and a shirt of unknown color, with the sleeves cut off. The Sheriff’s Office is working on a better description, and trying to obtain a photograph of Baumann, and will release that when it becomes available.

Mr. Baumann’s pickup was located in the area and Hoffman said that it is a possibility that he could have ridden out of the hills with someone else. Sheriff Hoffman added that nothing was being ruled out and a decision to renew search efforts in the area Baumann was last seen in would be made by this afternoon.

Sheriff Hoffman is asking anyone with information regarding Baumann’s whereabouts is to call the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office at 363-3033.
