MISSOULA, Mont. -

The board of directors for Missoula's Community Medical Center met Thursday, but didn't reach any decision on a potential merger.

The hospital announced last year that it wanted to give up its status as an independent hospital and join a larger organization.

We're told board members compiled a list of candidates, but they wouldn't tell us who was on the list because of nondisclosure agreements.

Last week, NBC Montana reported the search had been narrowed to two candidates. Several sources say Billings Clinic and Providence Medical Group, the owner of St. Patrick, Missoula's other hospital, made the cut.

We also learned a decision was possible Thursday, but it didn't happen.

The hospital is still seeking public comment on a potential merger, but no deadline has been set.
