BILLINGS, Mont. -

A 21-year-old man arrested in the July 2013 death of Forest Dana in Absarokee has denied charges filed in District Court in Columbus.

Michael Thomas Holtz pleaded not guilty Monday to negligent homicide and tampering with or fabricating evidence. A trial date has not been set.

Prosecutors allege Holtz was speeding down an alley when he struck Dana and ran over his head. Holtz also is charged with crashing his car into a tree to provide a reason for damage to his vehicle. Court records say DNA found on Holtz's car matched Dana's DNA profile.

Charging documents say numerous witnesses saw a car matching the description of Holtz's speeding in the alley where Dana's body was found early on July 28, 2013.

Holtz remains free on a posted $250,000 bond.
