MISSOULA, Mont. -

German sources confirm they're launching an investigation into the shooting death of an exchange student in Missoula.

German prosecutors are looking into the death of 17-year-old Diren Dede.

Dede was shot by Markus Kaarma after he entered Kaarma's garage early in the morning of April 27.

Prosecutors say Dede was likely looking for alcohol. Kaarma claims he was scared for his life and worried for his wife and child inside his home.

Kaarma pleaded not guilty to a deliberate homicide charge in Missoula County District Court last week.

Now German officials are asking for information from the case.

Under German law crimes against German citizens -- even in another country -- can be prosecuted.
