MISSOULA, Mont. -

What appears to be a failed roof drain brought down part of a historic warehouse building in Butte Saturday morning.

No injuries were reported. The collapse happened at 750 South Wyoming Street, located west of Whalen Tire and across the street from Steele's Furniture.

An employee at Steele's Furniture told us he called 911 around 8:30 a.m. to report the collapse.

Other employees reported hearing a loud crash, but no one we talked to saw the collapse.

Emergency responders barricaded part of South Wyoming Street because of a public safety concern.

Public Works Director David Schultz was called to the scene to investigate the cause.

"It appears to me that there was a failed roof drain," Schultz said. "It's a flat roofed building, and so the failed roof drain allowed water to accumulate on the roof, and the loading of that water caused the structural failure.

Schultz has condemned the privately owned building, which means it's up to owner Neil Lynch to tear it down.

Schultz says he expects demolition will take up to a month before it's complete.
