BUTTE, Mont. -- Montana Democrats are touring the state hosting a jobs tour.
They are going to 14 cities to check out small businesses and hold discussions in communities on how to improve Montana employment.
Missoula, Bozeman and Butte are among some of the stops on the jobs tour.
On Wednesday the tour visited the Mining City.
It started with two small businesses including the Port of Montana and spoke with the general manager, Kathy Fasso, and a small group.
"A healthy economy is just as much about job retention as it is about creating new jobs and that's obviously another key element is making sure that we keep the jobs that we already have," Fasso said.
Then the tour headed over to the Butte Archives to have a meeting and hear community member's concerns that they want legislators to address.
Several folks in the community attended including Butte-Silver Bow Chief Executive, Paul Babb, as well as other community leaders.
Rep. Tony Belcourt (D-Box Elder) said he was pleased with the turnout.
Belcourt is a rancher and owns his own construction company and said he understands Butte’s concern with infrastructure and supporting small business.
"It's going to be small businesses that grow our economy and that's what we're doing is listening to small businesses, understanding their concerns so that we can help them," Belcourt said.
According to the Montana Department of Labor 5.8 percent of people living in Butte-Silver Bow are unemployed and 6.8 percent are unemployed statewide.
