MISSOULA, Mont. -

Thousands of people gathered at Fort Missoula Friday for what organizers billed as an Old-Fashioned 4th of July celebration.

The Montana Tuba Chorale was front and center, along with a pancake breakfast, lessons in old-fashioned laundering and rope-making, and an arts and crafts fair.

It's a fundraiser for the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula.

We talked to volunteer Dale Johnson, who's been involved with the Museum since it opened.

"Oh it's great,” said Johnson. “The first 4th of July I attended was probably July 1978. Very few cars. Very few people. As you can see today, it's really expanded a great deal."

This was the 38th year Fort Missoula has hosted the fundraiser.
