HAMILTON, Mont. -

We have a new development in a story NBC Montana brought you about possible plans to bring a box store to Hamilton.

The Bitterroot Chamber of Commerce is asking the Department of Environmental Quality to extend the comment period for a permit application. Comments are due July 10.

The Chamber said it is asking for the extension because the application only became known to the general public after media coverage.

Chamber Director Al Mitchell said local businesses and citizens need more time to familiarize themselves over a proposed wastewater discharge permit.

NBC Montana uncovered documents about a proposed 156,000-square foot retail store on land off Highway 93, south of Hamilton.

It's the same land Walmart abandoned plans to build on several years ago.
