Monte Competes In Capital One Mascot Of The Year Contest

Missoula, Mont -- The University of Montana’s popular mascot Monte has been selected to compete in the Capital One Mascot Bowl this year.Monte is up against 16 other school mascots. The contest lasts 15 weeks with the competition narrowed each week.Monte won the competition in 2002 and 2004. Also, he made this year’s All-American team.Fans believe his stellar personality makes him a winner. "He makes fun of the refs and slams into the goal posts and he's very good, and he's fun to watch," explains Monte fan Shayla Schmitz. Monte fan Thomas Enseleit tells us, "He's a crowd pleaser and it's a morale booster and the team loves it. It's awesome."This year's winner will be announced January 1.To vote for Monte click here.

NBC Montana confirmed 34-year-old Jeremy Mata was arrested in Mt. Vernon, Wash., Tuesday.
