MISSOULA, Mont. -- Wildlife managers captured a young black bear in downtown Missoula.
The bear spent more than an hour in a tree before Fish, Wildlife & Parks was able to bring it down.
Home video captures the last seconds of an hour long stand off between the 70-pound male black bear and wildlife officials.
Residents say the bear created quite a scene in the normally quite neighborhood.
"I think at first everybody was just excited. Everybody had a camera, cars were pulling over. People were excited to see a bear in town, even though in Missoula we see it quite a bit," says Anders Brooker.
The bear was first spotted in an alley between Pine and Spruce Street in Missoula around 1 P.M.
"It did kind of huff at them a little bit, then ran off up the tree," says Vickie Edwards from the FWP.
FWP was called in to capture the bear. After it fell, it was put in a cage while agents waited fro it to wake up.
Eyewitnesses think it took the animal about 13 minutes to recover from the tranquilizer.
FWP released the bear into the wild later in the day.
"He was actually relocated elsewhere outside of the city, so we ended up taking him up to forest service land," says Edwards.
Officials with FWP warn, with fall approaching, bear sightings could become more common.
"We are going to be seeing a lot more bears out so we ask folks to contain their attractence," says Edwards.
