Monday afternoon marked a new chapter for the Griz men's basketball program as Travis DeCuire was formally introduced as the 27th head coach in program history.

This past weekend the University of Montana made it official that DeCuire would become the new men's basketball coach following Wayne Tinkle's departure.

DeCuire has spent the last six season at California Berkley but will now be coming back to Missoula where he spent his college days playing for the Griz basketball team from 1991 to 1994.  DeCuire says he's excited to be back in Missoula and he's up for the challenge.

"I'm fortunate to be here," said DeCuire.  "I understand I've got big shoes to fill. I'm excited. I look forward to it.  I'm not making promises, promises are hard to keep, but we've set our goals high. And if I can just be almost as good as the guys that were ahead of me,I feel like we will have a successful program and it will be in the right hands from this point forward."

UM Athletic Director Kent Haslam opened Monday's press conference with a statement saying he knew DeCuire was the right fit at head coach.

"I can say this without a shadow of doubt, we got our guy," said Haslam.

The Griz basketball team will look to improve from last seasons 17-13 record.
