HAMILTON, Mont. -

83-year-old Thomas Esley Day faces attempted deliberate homicide charges for allegedly hitting another man with his pickup truck.

The 64-year-old victim sustained injuries to his head Saturday evening, and was transported to an area hospital. He was reportedly in stable condition at the time of evaluation.

Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman said the suspect was taken into custody after the investigation indicated the suspect intentionally struck the victim.

According to a court report, the victim said he and Day were friends. The report said he had been staying at Day's residence, and on Saturday afternoon the suspect was angry and "on the fight."

The report said the two had agreed to go out for dinner, and the suspect became angry because the victim did not get out to the truck fast enough.

It said the suspect accelerated backwards in the truck, struck a large tree with the rear of the truck, then spun his tires and accelerated toward the victim.

The report said the victim could not get out of the way fast enough, and was struck by the front of the truck, knocking him backward onto the ground.
