MISSOULA, Mont. -

The Missoula County coroner's office says a man whose body was recovered from a van in the Clark Fork River in Missoula last week died of accidental drowning.

Rescue workers pulled 71-year-old Melvin Beedle and his vehicle out of the river on June 11.

Witnesses said they saw Beedle's van go over the embankment and into the river near a fast-food restaurant a day earlier.

The coroner's office released Beedle's cause of death on Wednesday.
