WHITEFISH, Mont. -- The Flathead Valley may get its first ever amateur hockey team. In just over a week, the Stumptown Ice Den opens its doors for the Winter Season in Whitefish. The Northwest Pacific Hockey League approved the request to create the Glacier Nationals. The team, however, still has to get approval from the city before everything is final. The owner needs close to $100,000 dollars to build two new locker rooms for the home and guests teams, and he is also working towards getting a bus for the players."Besides the race track, there's not a lot of sports beyond the high school level [in the Flathead Valley] where fans can come and root for their team and follow their team throughout the season," commented Andy Hergesheimer with Whitefish Recreation. If approved, the new team will begin September of 2011 with games on Friday and Saturday nights.
