How long is too long for a yard sale? Whitefish officials say they'd like to put an end to sales that last multiple days at a time. The city planning staff says their idea stems from numerous complaints of an extended yard sale in a residential neighborhood last summer.
Whitefish city council still has to look at the proposal, but if passed it would limit the number of yard sales to three three-day weekends every six months. Folks we spoke with say they wouldn't like it if their neighbors put on these long sales, so they agree with the planning staff.
"I don't think that I would like it cause there would be continuous traffic," said Jennifer Bush of the Children's House Montessori School, "Especially if it's next to your home, if it's your neighbor. And there's traffic every day for weeks on end. It's not the peaceful neighborhood you moved into."
The city council will review the proposal and planning board recommendations for final consideration at a meeting on June 4th.
