Analysts say coal is quickly becoming one of America's largest exports. Estimates are 110 million tons will be shipped to Asia by 2015.
People opposed to coal shipments worry the train loads, possibly up to forty a day, could have a major impact on Bozeman.
"There's going to be impacts to Bozeman from this: traffic congestion, potential emergency responder delays, there are health impacts from the coal trains, diesel particulate matter, coal dust, noise. And there's also community expenses from this," said Beth Kaeding of the Northern Plains Resource Council.
The Council is holding a public forum on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Bozeman Public Library to inform the community of what may come. Similar forums have been held around the state.
