MISSOULA, Mont. -

Felony charges have been filed against a 16-year-old boy for allegedly shooting a teenage girl in the toe. The boy is charged with three counts of criminal endangerment in juvenile court.

Police said it happened at a residence on Friday, on the 900 block of Pullman, on Missoula's north side. Police said the boy was waving a handgun around with three girls in the house, when it discharged and struck the girl.

"It was lucky for the victim it was just a toe," said Missoula police detective sergeant Bob Bouchee. "It could have been much more serious."

Bouchee said it's one more near tragedy that should remind everyone to be extremely careful around guns.
