WEST GLACIER, Mont. -

Spring snow plowing continues to progress at Glacier National Park - 17 miles of Going to the Sun Road are open to vehicle access.

On the eastern side of the park, visitors can drive 5.5 miles from the St. Mary's entrance all the way to Rising Sun. The park's website says hikers and bikers can enjoy access from Lake McDonald Lodge to Avalanche Creek with no restrictions on weekends. The east side currently has no restrictions.

Locals we spoke with said they can't wait to start hiking - some have even already made trips to local outfitting stores to stock up on summer gear.

"It's always a sure sign that summer's on the way," said Renee Noffke of Rocky Mountain Outfitter, "I think especially for locals around here its such a great way to get out early in the season with the hiker/biker access on the road. and being able to bike up to avalanche and beyond and just a great way to get out in the spring and get up a little bit higher!"

Other roads that are open include the Camas Road, and portions of Two Medicine Road and Inside North Fork Road. We'll keep you updated on the latest road reports.
