Montana House Speaker Mike Milburn is scheduled to sit on a panel of pot advocates and opponents to discuss the fallout from a new state law and federal crackdown that has threatened a once-booming medical marijuana industry.
Thursday night's discussion follows a Helena screening of "The Code of the West," a documentary that followed the 2011 legislative debate over marijuana.
Milburn sponsored a bill to repeal the state's voter-approved medical marijuana law that was vetoed by Gov. Brian Schweitzer. The Legislature then passed another bill that severely restricted medical marijuana providers from selling their product and tightened the qualifications to register as a medical marijuana user, among other changes.
The new law is facing both a court challenge and a nullification referendum in November's election.
