The Flathead County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals are asking for the public's help in locating a non-registered sex offender who is allegedly still in the area. A warrant is out for his arrest.
Dale Hanson, 61, failed to register as a sex offender with Flathead County or any other agency after he was released from Montana State Prison in July 2005. Hanson was serving two concurrent sentences of sexual assault and deviant sexual assault for acts with two minors that occurred from October 1990 to June 1992.
In a press release from the sheriff's office, an investigation states that Hanson voiced to acquaintances that he would not register as a sex offender because he feels it would make him admit guilt. Authorities say he did not complete required offender counseling, further stating Hanson is at a high risk to re-offend.
"He's a violent sexual offender and we want to protect our community," said Deputy Marshall Michael Penland. "We want to protect the communities of Kalispell, Whitefish, and Columbia Falls and the surrounding areas. And in Montana. We need to know where this person is."
Dale Hanson was last seen in Flathead County on September 14, 2009. If you have any idea on Hanson's whereabouts, please contact the Flathead County Sheriff's Office at (406) 758-5585.
