Seattle police say a Missoula man was found dead in Elliott Bay early this morning.

They report construction workers found 36-year-old Aaron Bolton lying face down in the water around 6 a.m.

Bolton has been a fixture in the Missoula music scene. NBC Montana is told Bolton had a part interest not only in a music store, but also in the Badlander in downtown Missoula.

Police say Harbor Patrol was called in to pull Bolton from the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say at this point it appears to be an accidental drowning, but medical examiners are still investigating.

They say Bolton didn't appear to have been in the water for very long.

Tonight, at the Badlander in downtown Missoula, friends and family gathered to grieve. The bar took no money for drinks. Donations were collected for a memorial fund. No date has been set for a memorial service.

Chris Henry is part owner of the Badlander and Palace nightspots. Henry says Bolton was an inspiration in celebrating both music and community. "He was the main person who had the vision of turning this place into a place for the local community to come and a place for music culture to thrive and to provide a place for everyone to come together and celebrate art, engage in art, perform art..."
