SEATTLE, Wash. -

A Seattle area pastor who defrauded members of his own congregation and others in a Ponzi scheme was sentenced Friday to more than three years in prison.

The U.S. attorney's office says 48-year-old Anthony C. Morris of the New Covenant Christian Center also was ordered to pay more than $1.8 million in restitution to 24 victims.

Morris pleaded guilty in federal court in Seattle in January to wire fraud and money laundering. He promised high returns to investors from an overseas trading program, but he simply used funds from later investors to pay off earlier investors.
