An outbreak of pertussis, also known as whooping cough, has hit Flathead County. The eight Flathead cases bring the total to 107 so far this year in Montana.
Flathead Health Department workers say three students at Columbia Falls Elementary and three others at Swan River have contracted the disease. The other cases are adults somehow associated with the schools, one of which is a teacher but NBC Montana hasn?t been told which school they work at.
?We want people to be aware that the disease doesn?t have boundaries,? said Jody White of the Flathead Health Department. ?We?re not looking at a disease that can stay within a county and a state.?
Health officials say everyone?s working hard to contain the outbreak. Experts urge adults to get boosters, and parents to immunize their children.
