KALISPELL, Mont. -

State officials have given a western Montana couple living south of Kalispell at Woods Bay the OK to kill a mountain lion that has taken up residence near their home and appears comfortable around humans.

Patty Storest tells the Associated Press that the lion appeared shortly after she put steak bones on the patio for her house cats and the bones disappeared.

Patty and her husband Dave say they have heard the mountain lion outside their home early in the morning and have seen it about 20 yards away.

Erik Wenum of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks says the mountain lion likely is targeting house cats.
