BOZEMAN, Mont. -

The following is a news release from the Bozeman Police Department.

Shortly after noon on April 25, 2012, the Bozeman Police Department arrested 53 year old Mary McCulley after she displayed a pistol at a local office. Ms. McCulley, a resident of Owensboro, Kentucky is being held at the Gallatin County Detention Center on a charge of Assault with a Weapon.

At 12:07 P.M. officers were dispatched to a report of an assault in the 3800 block of Valley Commons Drive. Multiple callers reported that a woman had pulled a pistol on a group of people in the office building and that she had fled after she had been disarmed by two of the victims. A caller described the suspect and her vehicle and officers were able to locate it within minutes. Ms. McCulley was stopped and arrested without incident.

Investigators have learned that Ms. McCulley was in the Bozeman area as a party to a pending lawsuit. At some point during the process, she walked into a conference room that was occupied by three persons and placed some documents on the table. Ms. McCulley then pulled a pistol from her pocket. Two of the people in the room immediately grabbed Ms. McCulley and the pistol, and they struggled for the weapon. The two were able to get control of the gun and push her from the room. Ms. McCulley was then seen leaving in a car that had been parked in the parking lot. During the struggle for the weapon, one of the men was bitten on the hand and arm, resulting in minor injuries.

The Bozeman Police Department praises the quick action of the victims in not only disarming the assailant but also their rapid notification to 911. Their actions brought an immediate end to an incident that could have had tragic consequences.

Detectives continue to investigate and will provide further information if it becomes available.
