KALISPELL, Mont. -

Kalispell firefighters set fire to an abandoned structure as part of their daily training exercises. The house, owned by the Flathead County faigrounds, was unable to be auctioned off in March to a potential owner so the fire department acquired the building for training.

Today's drill was a live fire exercise, where firefighters learned how to defensively manage over sized flames. Fire Chief Dave Dedman says the department trains every day, which he says is essential for keeping their skills sharp.

"It's very important to stay on top of your training," said Dedman. "We're continually growing, society's continuously changing. We have to charge our methods to meet that so this is always a great opportunity for us."
