Memorial day was suppose to be a day for Treasure State softball teams to reflect on the state tournament... not finish it up.
But for the Class A and B-C title games three days wasn't enough due to the terrible weather conditions in Anaconda and Western Montana's Polson and Florence softball teams wouldn't have it any other way. The Pirates and Lady Falcons cashed in on the extended tournaments by bringing home the state champion hardware.
The Class B-C matchup of Florence vs Glasgow was moved up to Great Falls where it picked up in the 3rd inning with Florence on top 2-1 (which is where the contest had advanced to Saturday in Anaconda before the contest was postponed). The Florence bats came picked up right where they had left off two days earlier; The Falcons scored three runs to take a 5-1 advantage after just a half inning of play.
Glasgow was never able to recover from the deficit and the Lady Falcons went on to win the game 7-3 to claim the state championship trophy.
Just minutes after that game's conclusion, the Class A title contest (which had been moved to Frenchtown) got underway between Polson and Belgrade. And for the third straight year it would be the Pirates taking the state title home to Flathead Lake. The Polson squad won the game 8-3 over Belgrade.
That game was knotted up 2-2 after five innings, but the 6th proved the difference maker. The Pirates scored six runs in the bottom of the 6th thanks to a pair of doubles and a trio of Belgrade errors. The Panthers managed just one run in the 7th en route to the 3-peat for Polson.
