Today will be the hottest day so far this year! A ridge of high pressure is responsible for the warm days and clear, chilly nights. Highs will warm into the 80s today and Wednesday. A few building cumulus clouds are expected this afternoon around Butte and Bozeman, as a weak storm system brings some mid and upper level moisture northward into western Montana. This moisture will combine with afternoon heating to bring a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms to areas south of I-90. With the lower levels very dry, little rain is expected. However, locally gusty winds are possible with these storms.

A Pacific storm system will move through the region Thursday and Friday. It will cool temperatures back to the normal 60s with a few showers. The best chance of rain will be over southwest Montana around Butte and Bozeman. A ridge of high pressure will then build back into the area by Sunday and Monday with a return of very warm weather.
