For many senior citizens, just getting to a doctor's appointment or the grocery store can be a major challenge. That's where Montana's Senior Companions program comes in.
The statewide program pairs seniors with volunteers who visit them for four hours a week, offering companionship, transportation and help with house work.
108 volunteers serve more than 500 seniors statewide. Bozeman senior Lorrain McJunkin has been in the program for two years.
"It means a lot, an awful lot, and I'm sure any of the seniors in Bozeman would feel the same way," she said. "Just to have a companion, just to have something to look forward to on a special day. Like on Thursday, that's my day."
Senior Companions will be holding a fundraiser Thursday evening at the Bozeman IHOP. If you eat dinner there between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., 20 percent of your tab will go to the program.
