BOZEMAN, Mont. -

Bozeman School Trustees have started the search for a new superintendent.

The current superintendent, Kirk Miller, announced this week that he's taking a job in Helena.

Trustees are working with the Montana School Board Association. However, officials there say the Bozeman School Board has taken the reins.

The job's posted online with an April 25th deadline for applications.

Bozeman School Board of Trustees Chairperson Denise Hayman says hiring a superintendent is a new process for most of the board members but says they're in a good place and ready to start the process.

"We have a solid reputation, we've had an outstanding superintendent, we've got a great board and a board that's willing to work hard and really screen and evaluate all the candidates and so, we will be making a good choice for the district," says Hayman.

Hayman says the profile of the ideal candidate will be hammered out at a special noon meeting on March 20th.

Officials with the Montana School Board Association say their main job will be to objectively look at applications to make sure candidates meet requirements. They say they will also perform background checks on finalists for the position.

"We're helping to ensure the Bozeman School Board can be as effective as possible in selecting their next superintendent," says Montana School Board Association CEO Lance Melton.
