BOZEMAN, Mont. -

A Belgrade man involved in a standoff with police pleaded not guilty to criminal endangerment charges Tuesday.

Police say 68-year-old Michael Frederick Pitton fired multiple shots in an attempt to force police to return fire.

Court records indicate police received a call about a suicidal man back in late April.

When they arrived at the area of Jackrabbit Lane and Glider Lane... They found Pitton outside of a van and a bystander approaching him...

After an exchange the bystander took off... and that's when Pitton allegedly fired a shot into the air...

Police were able to make contact with Pitton and began negotiating.

Pitton is being held at the Gallatin County Detention Center on on $50,000 bond.
